06/03/2020As a result of the spread of the virus in many countries, including some in Europe, with the aim of raising awareness of citizens and informing them about the measures taken in Kosovo, a discussion roundtable was held at UBT: How prepared is Kosovo for Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, this is the first UBT discussion in Kosovo following the spread of the virus in China, which left over 3,000 people dead. The discussion was opened by UBT Rector, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, who emphasized that the main purpose of this debate is to reflect as an institution, but also to show UBT’s commitment to provide professional academic expertise. Rector Hajrizi said that there shall be employed an all-embraced system involving all parties in order to manage such situations.
“In this perspective, it is necessary to carry out research on such cases and there is a need for academic analysis. The role of UBT in this action is important because it has the capacity and the innovative medical laboratories. Consequently, this virus should be addressed in the context of best management practices, although the information management system in our country does not work, and that the patient data is not harmonized, which is what the Government of Kosovo should reflect ”, emphasized. rector Hajrizi.
UBT professor Dukagjin Sokoli said that the situation created by this virus has caused panic in the citizens of Kosovo, but according to him, this situation can be managed if the citizens follow the give recommendations.
“The virus has spread and is highly infectious. The underlying aim of this conference is to prevent the spread of fear and panic among citizens”, he noted.
Furthermore, Fadil Kryeziu from the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo, put it that in our country there is no case affected by this virus. Among others, he claimed that teams of infectologists are staying at Adem Jashari International Airport, as well as at border crossing points, where travelers coming from countries affected by the Coronavirus are being fully examined.
“Obviously, January 30 has been declared a public health emergency and on this occasion the institute has raised its state of readiness as well as has boosted its capacities. At the meantime, Kosovo is a country surrounded by countries that have recorded positive cases of the virus, but there is no room for panic, but for increased caution, ignoring all recommendations given for protection”, he stated.
