On successful completion of this programme students should be able to:
1.To critically understand the issues of law criminal, with a focus on the principles and conceptual knowledge of criminal rights and national measures for these issues;
2.Critically reviews the substantive doctrine and interpretation of laws and by-laws of Kosovo’s criminal law, criminal procedure, comparative criminal law, and critically examine court decisions related to criminal cases;
3.To compare the legal aspects of criminal law and criminal procedure with the regulations of criminal law institutions such as criminal actions, criminal liability and the system of criminal sanctions in the region, Europe and in certain justice systems;
4.Evaluate and interpret primary and secondary sources of criminal law;
5.To develop creative answers for special areas of criminal law such as criminology, victimology, penology, forensics as well as measures to prevent and fight organized crime;
6.To achieve highly specialized and advanced knowledge in advanced criminal law, comparative criminal law, advanced criminal procedure, criminology, victimology, penology, forensics, organized crime and legal research;
7.To create a systematic understanding of institutional structures and procedures in criminal judicial processes;
8.To manage teams in the simulation of criminal court processes, the formulation of criminal complaints, indictments, the formulation of judgments as well as in the provision of critical analyses of phenomena, trends and reforms in criminal law and take responsibility for contributing to knowledge in the field of criminal law;
9.Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills in solving complex issues related to criminal procedure, tools and methodology of pre-criminal and criminal investigation of perpetrators of criminal offenses;
10.To plan and carry out a research project in the field of criminal law.
The teaching and learning methods employed in the LLM program in Criminal Law are carefully chosen to be both appropriate and effective in achieving the program’s educational goals. By combining traditional lectures with interactive sessions, practical experiences, research opportunities, and an international perspective, the program provides a well-rounded and comprehensive educational experience for students pursuing advanced studies in criminal law. The emphasis on research further enhances the academic rigor and contributes to the program’s overall goals. The following didactic methods are used to achieve the program learning outcomes through their application in different courses:
Lectures-Lectures in most of the subjects are mostly practice-oriented that assume active participation in hands-on assignments and teamwork;
Case study exercises-Case study exercises of different phenomena in criminal law are carried out. In this case study exercises students carry out scenario analysis and create various options and solutions to various legal problems from the field of criminal law.
Critical reviews-Critical reviews are a didactic concept through which the professor attempts to have students be involved in critical review of substantive doctrine and laws and bylaws of the criminal law of Kosovo. Students will be able to interpret the regulations and critically review and appraise them.
Legal evaluations and opinions-During the classes, the students will be engaged in group work whereby they evaluate the primary and secondary sources of law and provide create creative solutions for the improvement of legal wording or legal interpretation.
Policy memo-Policy memo is a strong didactic concept through which students are asked to provide creative responses to the improvement of the law or legal practise upon having evaluated the sources of law.
Research skills-Students participate in an active research project of the UBT Law Faculty either as an assignment or real research project in which academic staff and Law Faculty is involved. Then if the research project is successful and published in an impact factor journal, the successful students will serve as co-authors of the published peer-to-peer article. This enhances the research skills of students and enhances collaboration between professors and students in the innovative research areas of criminal law interdisciplinary fields.
Study visits and guest speakers-Through study visits in highly specialized law firms and through guest speakers from the ranks of renowned industry members.
Interdisciplinary activity-Interdisciplinary activities are used in the courses where interdisciplinary facets of the criminal law are included. Students are divided into groups, through which they manage teams in critically analysing the phenomena, trends and reforms in various fields of criminal law with particular emphasis in Kosovo.
The research concept of the study program under evaluation is that students mostly conduct their empirical and comparative research in each of the courses. Students develop empirical research skills through essay assignments in each class and later they perform more advanced research in the diploma thesis.
