Due to the fact that the field of computer science is subject to a rapid growth, it is considered to surpass all professions in the world. Lately, this profession is being chosen by many girls and women in Kosovo, who are successfully succeeding in their careers in the ICT sector. The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at UBT is the largest in this field in the country and the region, followed by the Faculty of Information Systems and Macaroni Management, which are programs that accept hundreds of female students each year, a number which is becoming increasingly high each year.

However, International ICT Girls’ Day finds UBT with over 2000 students who have started professional construction in the field of ICT in this institution, who are specifically developing their skills in modern infrastructure and the most sophisticated information technology particularly in the field of robotics. On this occasion, the Rector of UBT, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, emphasized that this sector is a good choice to study girls and women. As result, it consistently fosters their creativity and imagination. In this regard, Hajrizi encouraged young girls and women to start studying in this field, as he said, despite the challenges and prejudices.

“I highly appreciate that the number of students enrolling in these programs has increased, so this makes us proud, firstly because they start their careers and professional development at UBT, and secondly, that these girls and women will be the innovators of the future, despite the emerging challenges. Meanwhile, the International Girls’ Day at ICT, certainly finds UBT with more students enrolled in these programs, at the same time with numerous projects developed by girls, with medals won by students in many world competitions in the field of robotics and computer science”, noted Hajrizi. In addition, he claimed that over 300 students a year graduate from UBT.

Furthermore, a large number of girls and women who have already graduated, are currently running innovative businesses, work in various global companies, engaged in coordinating, leading positions and as academic and administrative staff, but also in many state institutions. Moreover, each year, UBT joins global institutions that mark International Girls’ Day in ICT, aiming to draw the attention of girls and women in the field of technology.
