In UBT was held a roundtable and were elaborated issues regarding the function of Specialized Chambers of Kosovo

17/10/2018

In UBT was discussed about the Special Court. Obviously, this court has never accomplished its mission and to make the matter worse it has never clarified its objectives. Undoubtedly, both Kosovo and Serbia don’t necessarily need retributive bodies but it’s worth having reconciliation institutions which aim at providing solutions to conflicts which have been left unelaborated by the respective states and that have brought forth adverse consequences by hampering the integration processes for both countries.

The participating parties of the conference “The Specialized Chambers of Kosovo” came up to a common conclusion that this court has been in itself an institution which has caused changes in political issues and are referred to as a court which will soon cease functioning. This conference was organized by the Institute of European Integration, Grotius Centre and UBT.

The keynote speakers who provided their analysis about the foundation, the nature of verdicts which have been given by this court and the future of both countries in their struggles towards European integration, were the leader of the political party “Self-Determination” Albin Kurti who was at the same time the head of the panel, Medlir Mema a scholar in the field of International Relations”, Aidan Hehir, the scholar coming from the Institute of Criminology Leuven Furtuna Sheremeti, the associated scholar Mathias Holvoet and the assistant of RIT Kosovo Robert Muharremi.

As far as they were concerned it was necessary to go through a successful transition in order to surpass these obstacles. Presumably, what they tried to pinpoint was that it’s indispensable to have useful mechanisms which are strongly supported by the government and to have responsible, transparent and reliable courts.

This is the third forum that is organized by the Institute of European Integration, Grotius Centre and UBT. The previous forums were held during March in Brussels and Hague in June in Hague.
