UBT Brings Last Generation of NOA Robots in Kosovo
13/04/2013The UBT is the first institute of higher education in the Republic of Kosovo and the region to have brought in the last generation if the NOA robots in Kosovo and the Balkans. This was said at a press conference organized at the UBT University in Pristina today.
UBT President Prof. Dr. Edmon Hajrizi, Prof. Dr. Peter Kopacek from the Vienna University of Technology, and Dr. Muzafer Shala, Dean of the Department of Mechatronics of the UBT, offered details on the new robots and the importance of bringing them to our country.
“NOA robots are part of the most advanced technology of humanoid robots, and based on the discussions I had with the company in Paris, these robots come for the first time in the Balkans. This is good and most positive news for our country,” said UBT President Hajrizi.
The introduction of robotics in the UBT is not new development because the university’s the department of mechatronics has the most modern laboratory not in the country but in the region. It has all kinds of robots, starting from industrial robots, football playing robots, and now the robots that were presented today.
At a competition of football robots in Europe, the UBT received the first place and we believe that with the robots that have reached the UBT will be able to participate in the European and world championships and we are confident that we will be successful. Around 20 big universities of the world have this kind of technology today and now the UBT is joining the family of such universities. From now on, the UBT students and staff will have access to the latest technology of this kind, Prof. Hajrizi said.
Prof. Dr. Kopacek from the Vienna University of Technology, who also teaches at the UBT, said robots have already entered Kosovo and a new technology is being developed while the humanoid robots are a good example how the mechatronics is developing today.
“I hope and I believe that in 10 years’ time every company in Kosovo will have robots of this kind and my duty and the duty of the UBT chief is to make sure that the students are served with the latest technology in this field because the universities need to think on time about the future and the development of the country in all sectors with the special emphasis in technology. The UBT has a mechatronics laboratory which will be the future house of these robots.”
Dr. Muzafer Shala presented the research work that is being done by the Department of Mechatronics in the field of robotics and industrial systems. He spoke also about the newly arrived robots which will offer an opportunity for research in different fields including computer sciences.
Kushtrim Dragusha, a lecturer from this department, said inter-communication between humans and robots is made possible through sensors installed in the robots which enable voiced communication and receiving of comments from humans. They also provide visual communication through cameras.
Communication between human and robots is made through the LED lights and loudspeakers in a natural way. The power of processing of data is huge and it enables real-time communications between robots and humans. Robots also have a direction and standing sensors in order to detect the position and in cases they fall they can stand up to a normal position.
