UBT is one of the world’s top 200 universities for combating climate change and environmental sustainability

Thus, following the prestigious international awards such as “European Young Entepreneurial University of the Year”, ranking in the world 6th in terms of applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and ranking among the top 100 best universities in the world for Real Impact – WURI, in this early 200s UBT was ranked among the Top 200 Best Universities in the World for Combating Climate Change by GreenMetric World University Ranking 2023.
The GreenMetric World University Ranking is a ranking of universities that invest in and focus on Green Campuses and environmental sustainability. Through 39 indicators in 6 categories, the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings determines the level of engagement and ranking of universities according to their performance in relation to environmental initiatives.
This ranking evaluates universities based on their tangible contributions to combating climate change and promoting sustainability through innovative ideas and initiatives regarding efficient energy utilization and renewable energy use, efficient water use and wastewater treatment, waste recycling, green spaces within campus, Green mobility and transport, etc.
The ranking also places importance on promoting behaviour change within the university community and addressing the economic and social challenges associated with sustainability.
While the Category Energy and Climate Change, in which UBT is ranked among the Top 200 universities in the world- respectively at 175th place, constitutes the highest weight category out of all 6 categories of ranking.
In this category, universities are evaluated for initiatives, measures and concrete actions in relation to the fight against climate change. In this context, universities are evaluated for drafting concrete policies, strategies and initiatives in this area, including concrete measures and projects in renewable energy use, green buildings, measures for maximizing energy efficiency, measures for reducing CO2 emission etc.
UBT already has the Institutional Strategy for Green and Carbon Neutral Universities, as well as the Institutional Strategy for promoting and implementing SDGs. While the institution has already received some important international recognition of its contribution to this field.
